Metropolis

Working in mixed media, Katya explores feelings of isolation and being torn between different avenues. She includes cartoonish characters to transform negative emotions into more of a playful outlet; juxtaposing a sense of disconnection and solitude.

Metropolis was an realisation of these ideas. The works were made up of iconography and imagery from dreams, periods of dissociation and set in reality in locations around East London; the Isle of Dogs, Limehouse and the Thames foreshore to name a few.

Katya uses the methods of metal casting to preserve found objects from the foreshore, and the process of tufting to create tapestries in homage to certain thoughts, dreams and moments felt living in a capital.
